President, Prime Minister hail Rabo Trophy hockey victory ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP)- President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sunday hailed Pakistan's title victory in the Rabo Trophy Hockey Tournament with a 4-3 triumph over Australia in the final at Amstelveen (Holland). "This marvellous victory will certainly be the harbinger of better things to come as it will boost the morale of Pakistan hockey team which had not won a title for many years", President Gen. Pervez Musharraf said in a message of congratulations to team manager Saeed Khan, chief coach Asif Bajwa and team captain Muhammad Saqlain. Yemen flash floods kill 12 in two days SANAA, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Flash floods have killed a dozen people in Yemen and have injured at least six others in the poor Arab state, officials said on Sunday. "Twelve people have died in the last two days due to heavy rains and there have been six injuries," a police official said, adding that 50 farmland animals had also died in the floods. The country's meteorological office has warned the heavy rains will continue for the next two days. Yemen, at the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula, is prone to floods in spring and summer. Brazilian delegation to meet British police over shooting LONDON, Aug 21 (AFP) - A Brazilian delegation is on Monday to meet London's Metropolitan Police and representatives from the inquiry into the shooting of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, the Brazilian embassy said. The innocent 27-year-old electrician was shot and killed on July 22 by police officers who feared he may have been a suicide bomber, a day after a failed attempted repeat of the July 7 bombings on London transport that killed 52 people as well as the four bombers. Two US embassy staff hurt in a blast near Kabul KABUL, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Two officials of the U.S. embassy in Kabul were hurt by a roadside bomb that hit their convoy near the Afghan capital on Sunday, officials said. "I can confirm that two American personnel of the U.S. embassy were slightly hurt while on a routine embassy mission near Kabul," Michael Macy, a U.S. embassy public affairs officer, told Reuters. Dozens hurt in battles between protesting Nepal students and police KATHMANDU, Aug 21 (AFP) - Nepalese students and police battled with bricks and tear gas Sunday during protests over rising fuel prices and dozens of people were injured, witnesses said. Protesting students clashed with riot police at different campuses in Kathmandu, said home ministry spokesman Gopendra Bahadur Pandey. Norway to assist Pakistan in capacity building ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 21 (PPI) Norway will assist Pakistan in capacity building, launching accreditation system in areas of Good Labs Practice (GLP), said visiting Norwegian experts while talking to media men here after the completion of their visit on Sunday. France to send fire-fighting planes to Portugal EU BRUSSELS, Aug 21 (Reuters) - France will send two specially equipped aircraft to Portugal on Sunday to fight forest fires raging across the country after Lisbon made a request to the EU's executive Commission, a Commission spokesman said. Encephalitis outbreak claims 20 lives in southwest Nepal KATHMANDU, Aug 21 (AFP) - An outbreak of encephalitis in southwest Nepal has claimed at least 20 lives in the past week with more than 60 new cases reported at the weekend, the state-run RSS news agency said Sunday. Indonesia to soon announce amnesty for Aceh rebels: report JAKARTA, Aug 21 (AFP) - Indonesia will this week announce an amnesty for some 2,000 detained Aceh rebels as part of a peace pact signed to end 29 years of separatist conflict in the resource-rich province, a report said Sunday. Pakistan to meet with UN nuclear agency on Iranian uranium contamination VIENNA, Aug 21 (AFP) - The UN nuclear watchdog meets this week with Pakistani officials to check its conclusions that highly enriched uranium particles found in Iran were from smuggled Pakistani centrifuge parts rather than enrichment work by Iran, diplomats said. Qantas plane with 191 people makes emergency landing in Japan SYDNEY, Aug 21 (AFP) - A Qantas jet carrying 191 passengers and crew made an emergency landing in Osaka, Japan early Sunday after a report of smoke in the cargo hold, the Australian airline said. Earthquake rattles north Japan, no casualties or damage reported TOKYO, Aug 21 (AFP) - An earthquake registering 5.0 on the Richter scale rattled northern Japan Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, officials said. The quake hit Niigata, 200 kilometers (125 miles) north of Tokyo, at 11:29 am (0229 GMT) with its epicentre at a depth of only five kilometers, the meteorological agency said, adding that there was no risk of tsunamis.
