Pakistani soldier hanged for plotting to kill President Musharraf MULTAN, Pakistan, Aug 20 (AFP) A Pakistani army man accused of involvement in a plot to kill President General Pervez Musharraf two years ago was executed early Saturday, jail authorities said. Islam Siddiqui, 35, was hanged before dawn in central Pakistan's Multan prison, said jail superintendent Malik Ataullah. Siddiqui, a former soldier, was sentenced to death by a military court for involvement in a plot to kill Musharraf, who is also chief of the army staff, Ataullah said. (Posted @ 23:15 PST)

Kashmir resolution vital for peace in South Asia: PM ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Saturday that the Kashmir issue must be resolved by finding a solution acceptable to all three parties to the dispute. Speaking in CNN's Asia Talk Program he said Pakistan, India and people of Kashmir are the three stakeholders and the dispute should be settled in a way acceptable to all. Aziz highlighted the key role being played by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism as a front line state. Pakistan fully aware of its defence needs: Kasuri KASUR, Aug 20 (APP) Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri Saturday said that Pakistan was fully aware of its defence needs and would do what was required. Talking to newsmen, he said that Pakistan wanted durable peace in the region and would be willing to reduce its defence budget, if India were to cut her defence spending. He dismissed as totally baseless and false the allegation by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about so-called cross-border terrorism. Bush says Iraq war sacrifices deserve victory CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug 20 (AFP) US President George W. Security incidents in Iraq, Aug 20 BAGHDAD, Aug 20 (Reuters) Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and three wounded when an insurgent hurled a hand grenade at a passing Iraqi army patrol in Falluja, west of Baghdad, a police officer said. An Iraqi police patrol killed three gunmen as they repelled an insurgent attack in the northern city of Mosul, police said. India-Bangladesh border firing stops, talks offered KOLKATA, India, Aug 20 (Reuters) Indian and Bangladeshi border guards negotiated a ceasefire on Saturday, halting a gunbattle that flared over disputed construction work along the frontier, an Indian official said. Wanted Saudi militant killed in clash with police RIYADH, Aug 20 (Reuters) A Saudi militant, Majed al-Hasseri, on a list of most wanted suspects in the kingdom died during a clash with police on Thursday, a security source said on Saturday.
