"Pakistan welcomes the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza as a positive first step," a foreign office spokesman said. The spokesman expressed the hope that it would pave the way for the establishment of "a sovereign and independent Palestinian state living in peace side by side with Israel."(Posted @ 19:38 PST) Israel sets West Bank evictions for Tuesday JERUSALEM, Aug 19 (Reuters) Israel will begin the forced evacuation of two West Bank settlements on Tuesday after completing the withdrawal of all settlers from Gaza, an Israeli security source said on Friday. Sanur and Homesh would be the last of four West Bank settlements to be evacuated under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan to "disengage" from the Palestinian conflict. The two are viewed as bastions of hardcore opposition to Sharon's plan.(Posted @ 17:20 PST) One dead, 50 injured in California prison unrest LOS ANGELES, Aug 19 (AFP) - One prisoner was killed and another 50 people injured in clashes between guards and inmates at a prison in southern California, officials said Friday. According to Todd Slosek, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, violence broke out at the prison near San Diego on Thursday afternoon when a guard spotted a prisoner he believed was concealing something in his trousers. Medical and police officials on the Sinai peninsula said the Egyptian driver was also injured when the bus turned over several times on the mountainous road from St. Katherine's monastery towards the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. "There are seven dead.
