Polling-Ends :- Polling for Local Bodies elections-2005 ends KARACHI, Aug 18 (APP)- The polling in the first phase of Local Bodies elections-2005 ended at 5 P.M. to elect councillors and voting in the remaining 56 districts will be held on Aug. 25, , The polling for first phase of local bodies` elections began Thursday morning in Karachi and nine other districts of Sindh ,in Karachi there are 3360 Polling Stations, In Punjab province there are 17,411 polling stations in 17 districts , in NWFP there are 12 districts, Baluchistan 14 districts. Transparent holding of elections to improve Pakistan's image: PM ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Thursday expressed his satisfaction over the fair, free and transparent conduct of first phase of local bodies elections,saying it would enhance country's image in the comity of nations. Pope Benedict XVI in Germany for talks with Muslim leaders Berlin, Aug 18 PPI: Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Cologne Thursday on four-day visit of his homeland where he is scheduled to hold talks on religious dialogue with that country's Muslim leaders, German television reported. Pakistani prisoner Muhammad Ahmed died in India ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (APP): A Pakistani prisoner Muhammad Ahmed son of Gulzar Ahmed who was confined in Indian jail has died in hospital at district Sri Garganagar Rajasthan. According to a message conveyed to Pakistan High Commission by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Muhammad Ahmed, a Pakistani prisoner died on June 28, 2005 in a hospital at District Sri Ganganagar. Hockey: Pakistan beats India 3-1 Netherlands, Aug 18 (PPI): Pakistan kept their hope alive in the prestigious eight-nation Rabo Hockey Tournament when they outplayed traditional arch rivals India 3-1 in their second match here Thursday at Wagener Stadium. Pakistan is now leading the Pool A table along with Spain with 4 points and will take on European hockey powerhouse Germany in their last pool match. No shuttle launch before March, NASA says WASHINGTON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - The next launch of a space shuttle will not be until March 2006, NASA officials said on Thursday. "It looked like the early opportunities don't work for us," Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA's associate administrator for Space Operations, told a news conference. "From an overall standpoint we think really March 4th is the time frame we are looking at." Gunmen attack Iraq's Anbar governor, clerics RAMADI, Iraq, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Insurgents opened fire on the governor of Iraq's Anbar province and a group of prominent Sunni Muslim clerics as they were meeting in Ramadi on Thursday, causing casualties, witnesses said. Witnesses said Anbar Governor Mamoun al-Alwani was holding talks with members of the Muslim Clerics Association in Ramadi's main Al Dawla al-Kabeer mosque when the gunmen opened fire, the witnesses said. Lebanese hostage freed in Afghanistan: Taliban QALAT, Afghanistan,Aug 18 (APP/AFP) - Afghanistan's Taliban rebels said Thursday they had released a kidnapped Lebanese engineer whom they had earlier threatened to kill.Hostage Safieddine Mohammad Rida, a mechanical engineer working for a Lebanese company that sells diesel engines, was abducted on Sunday in restive southeastern Afghanistan. Four killed in helicopter crash near Russian oil fields MOSCOW, Aug 18 (AFP) Four people died Thursday in a helicopter crash near the western Siberian oil town of Nefteyugansk, the Russian emergency situations ministry said. Four die in latest occupied Kashmir violence SRINAGAR, Aug 18 (AFP) Two militants, a policeman and a contractor have been killed in the latest bout of separatist violence in revolt-hit occupied Kashmir, police said Thursday.The militants were killed in the district of Pulwama, south of the summer capital Srinagar, late Wednesday during a clash with Indian troops, a police spokesman said.
