Team visits Guddu, Sukkur barrages : ‘Faulty’ telemetry system
SUKKUR Aug 9: A six-member high-level team comprising officials of Wapda, Indus River System Authority (Irsa) and Siemens company, inspected on Tuesday the telemetry system installed at Sukkur and Guddu barrages.
The team included Irsa Chairman Aman Gul Khatak, Prime Ministerial Committee chief Maj-Gen (Retd) Farooq Ahmed, Wapda’s representative Jawed Ashraf and the general manager Siemens.
The team examined the telemetry system installed at both the barrages, which, according to irrigation sources, is not properly functioning from its inception as it has developed a major fault.
The irrigation authorities claim that the water reading offered by the system at Sukkur and Guddu does not reconcile with the readings offered by the system installed at the waterworks in Punjab.
Irrigation sources claimed that the team members personally saw the faulty working of the telemetry system. The general manager Siemens assured the chief engineers of Sukkur and Guddu barrages that the fault would be removed by the company’s engineers as soon as possible.
Earlier, the team visited dams and barrages in Punjab to examine the working of telemetry system there.
The electronic system was installed about two years ago at a cost of Rs320 million to monitor water inflow and outflow at all the dams and barrages in the country to remove misgiving among the provinces over water distribution.
