New market research for goods urged

KARACHI, Aug 9: The business community has been asked to increase research on Pakistan’s export potential, especially untapped sectors, and on demand for products in regional and international markets.

Pakistani traditional foods, seafood and weeds have a very good market in many countries — from China to the United States and the European Union — which needed to be exploited through research and innovative methods.

This was noted in a meeting between Pakistan’s consul generals-designate to Frankfurt and Dubai and members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Monday.

CG-designate to Frankfurt, Burhanul Islam said Pakistan could earn billions of dollars in foreign exchange only by improving processing mechanism of seafood and weeds like cactus, and China was a big market.

“Chinese are very keen to become partners with Pakistani businessmen in this sector. We should not be late as India is intruding the market,” he cautioned.

FPCCI Vice-President Akbar Abdullah urged the diplomats to provide the FPCCI with latest market data so that Pakistani businessmen could capture the avenues.—APP
