GUJRANWALA, Aug 8: The district administration took serious note of use of substandard material in the construction of a state-run girls school building and recommended stern action against buildings department executive engineer, SDO, sub-engineer and contractor on Saturday.

District monitoring officer Ehsan Bhutta inspected the building of Government Girls Primary School, Fatumand, which was constructed by building department. The building developed cracks within four years. The school staff and students apprised him of the situation during his visit.

It is learnt that the construction started on April 9, 2001 and completed on September 30 the same year. The district monitoring officer submitted his report to the DCO and recommended stern action against the buildings department officers and the contractor.

UPLIFT WORK STOPPED: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain Minhas ordered suspension of all ongoing development projects throughout the district on a petition regarding violation of election code of conduct and issued a memorandum to all government departments to this effect.

Reports said one Abbas Ahmad filed a petition with the sessions court stating that parliamentarians were taking keen interest in getting uplift schemes completed which was tantamount to pre-poll rigging.
