KARACHI, Aug 7: Jockey Waheed Baran’s shining performance earned him a magnificent double as eight-year old half-bred horse Desparado was denied hat trick in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi racecourse on Sunday. Baran was the pick of the day as his two horses’ came out with flying colours in addition to a third and fourth positions.
After having a dismal start when Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s Royal Leader had to be content with third place in the first race of afternoon, three-year old colt King Of Kings with Waheed Baran in the saddle, posted an amazing victory in the third race.
Four-year old bay colt, Fakhr-e-Sanghar and three-year old half-bred, Arab-Hi-Arab settled for second and third positions respectively.
Keeping his pace, Baran continued his winning spree when he piloted three-year old colt Fascinate to victory in the sixth race, thus making it two in a row.
Seven-year old mare, Order Of The Day finished second while three-year old filly, Dr Good Head secured third position.
Ridden by Ashiq Ali, dark bay mare Silver Sweet romped home in the first race with seven horses’ in the field.
Cool Water was closely beaten to second place. Desperado, aspiring for a hat trick, had a poor run after being content with third position.
Jockey Sheraz Ahmed rode Royal Loyality to victory with Welcome Pachino occupying second position.
Half-bred horse Chand Aya topped the field of nine runners after two were scratched.
Little Sunny with Zaki Zakir in the saddle and Dushtiyani, ridden by Muhammad Nasir, settled for the remaining two places.
Golden Copy, also had a fine day when he won the fifth race by neck with Royal Wisdom taking the second spot. Dark bay mare,Ghabra settled it for the third position.
Arabian Queen won top honours in the seventh race winning by 3 ¼ lengths. Dragun Heart, the four-year old grey-colt, had to be content with second place.
