3 UC nazims elected unopposed

QUETTA, Aug 7: Nazims and naib nazims of three of Quetta district’s 67 union councils have been elected unopposed. Mir Inyatullah Satakzai has been elected nazim and Sawab Khan naib nazim of union council No.66, Tahir Mehmood and Mohammad Hussain of union council No.8, and Omar Qureshi and Abdul Jabbar of union council No.19. Mr Qureshi was also elected unopposed in 2001.

All the councillors of union council No.66 have been elected unopposed.

For 871 posts in the district, 2,578 candidates are in the field, including 229 panels for the posts of nazims and naib nazims, 120 for minorities’ seats, 306 for women peasants and labourers seats, 503 for peasants and labourers seats, 371 for women’s seats and 1,049 for general councillors’ seats.

SECTION 144: The home department has imposed Section 144 in all the districts of Balochistan under which processions, carrying of weapons, wall chalking and display of banners have been banned for one month.
