PESHAWAR, Aug 5: General Secretary of the NWFP chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has deplored the statements of MMA leaders about re-tabling the Hasba bill in the provincial assembly.

Speaking at a public meeting at Mandani Charsadda, Sikandar Sherpao said there was no room for Talibanization in Pakistan because democratic institutions were functioning and flourishing.

He advised the MMA leadership to show sagacity by accepting the Supreme Court judgment on the controversial law and abandon the path of confrontation. He hailed the Supreme Court verdict, saying that it had vindicated the stance of the opposition in the Frontier Assembly.

He said the verdict had exposed the true face of the MMA leadership which was claiming the bill as a step towards Islamization.

The PPP leader said various clauses of the bill had been declared contrary to the constitution and its implementation would have usurped human rights in the province. He alleged that the bill was aimed at grabbing powers and diverting public opinion from real issues.

Mr Sherpao said that the Taraqi Pasand group would score a landslide victory in the local body elections. —APP
