KARACHI: Condition to show marks sheets withdrawn: Admissions to first year

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 4: The admission committee for first year classes of the city government colleges on Thursday decided to withdraw the condition of production of marks sheet of the perquisite examination for obtaining college admission forms and brochure from banks.

Talking to Dawn, the EDO (Higher Education), Prof M Rais Alvi, said that from Friday onwards students seeking admissions to first year classes would not be required to show marks sheet issued by the educational boards concerned for getting a placement form from bank. Now the students will be issued admission forms on production of admit cards of the prerequisite examination or marks sheet, he added.

A meeting of the Centralized Admission Committee of the city government was held on Thursday to review the progress related to admissions.

The meeting was informed that till Thursday the banks sold about 30,000 placement forms and brochures to students, excluding the SSC science group candidates, who are yet to get matriculation examination marks sheets.

Earlier, the admission committee had announced that production of mark sheet was a must for obtaining admission forms from banks. In view of the delay in the issuance of mark sheets to science group candidates and graduated of TSC (technical) examination the policy has been relaxed, said an official of the district government’s education department.

While the science group students would be facilitated due to change in the policy, the admission committee hopes to continue as per its original admission schedule so that the teaching process at the colleges could be started from Sept 1, which is also a requirement of the steering committee of the Sindh education department, claimed the official.

There is no change in the dates fixed for the purchase of admission forms and submission of those with necessary documents, ie Aug 10. However, there is likelihood of extension in dates for submission of forms at banks by science group students and those passing out from the Board of Technical Education.

The SSC Science group results were declared by the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi on July 30, while the Sindh Board of Technical Education is still to announce results of Matric technical students. About 3,500 candidates had appeared in the TSC part-II exams, it was learnt.

In the meantime, the BSE has announced the dates for the issuance of matriculation marks sheets to its affiliated schools as per the following schedule;

August 8- schools located in New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulberg and Liaquatabad towns; Aug 9- schools of Keamri, Site, Baldia, Orangi towns; Aug 10-Schools of Lyari and Saddar; Aug 11- schools of Jamshed, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Shah Faisal, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Bin Qasim and Gadap towns.
