KARACHI: Two men shot dead

KARACHI, Aug 1: Two young men were shot dead in seperate incidents on Monday. A young man was shot dead near Jilani Centre, Merewether Tower on Monday night. Police said that two suspects on a motorcycle intercepted Mohammad Yaseen, 18, and opened fire. A passer-by also suffered a bullet wound.

The victim was rushed to Civil Hospital from where he was taken to Aga Khan Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The wounded passerby, Zia, was taken to Civil Hospital where he was stated to be in a stable condition.

Another young man was shot dead by a security guard near Bilawal Chowrangi Clifton on Monday. Police said Mohammad Jan, 17, had an altercation with a security guard who shot the teenager.

Duty officer of the Boat Basin police station Rana Latif told Dawn that Jan was a photographer and used to taken snaps of the people visiting the beach. He used to develop photos from a nearby lab located beneath Jackson Coastal View Apartment.

Rana Latif said on Monday the boy went to the lab but found it closed. He went to the nearby estate agency and asked the security guard identified as Mohammad Hanif about the shop. The two exchanged hot words and Hanif opened fire at the boy.

The boy was rushed to the Ziauddin Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The guard has been arrested and a case has been registered against him.
