KARACHI, July 31: The Karachi Building Control Authority has handed over one billion rupees received from the regularization of lands to the city government. This was stated by KBCA Chief Controller Brig A.S. Nasir while talking to newsmen at the International Housing Exhibition organized here at the Expo Centre on Sunday.
He said the steps taken for regularization of lands had not only restored the confidence of builders but a large investment was also expected in the housing and construction industry.
Brig Nasir said that recovery of further one billion rupees was also likely to be realized which would be passed on to city government.
He said when he assumed the charge of his duty at the KBCA there were no sufficient funds even for disbursement of salaries to the staff but now the KBCA had become a profitable department and a major source of revenue for the city government.
The chief controller further said that steps were taken for the welfare of KBCA staff which included allocation of funds for education of their children and provision of transport facility.
About the exhibition, he said, it was a unique event of its kind which would promote activities of housing and construction industry in the city. “This will pave the way for construction of high-rise buildings equipped with modern facilities,” he added.
He said thousands of people visited the exhibition during the last two days which clearly spoke of its success. “The builders should improve the construction standards and should abide by the rules and regulations to avoid action against them by KBCA,” he added.
On the occasion, Brig A.S. Nasir thanked the Association of Builders and Developers and stall holders for their cooperation in the exhibition. —APP
