Hockey: Fatehpur, Shining Stars advance

PESHAWAR, July 29: Fatehpur and Shining Stars secured victories to move into the next round of the District Swat Inter-club hockey championship at Swat Sports Complex on Friday. Fatehpur blanked out Green Stars, Mingora 6-0 while Shining Stars beat Swat Red 4-3 in a thriller.

Fatehpur grabbed an early lead in the 5th minute through Muhammad Ali on a field attempt. Janbaz Khan doubled it in the 13th minute on a penalty corner rebound. The 2-0 lead boosted Fatehpur’s spirits with Gulraiz slamming another goal to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. The lead remained intact till half-time.

In the second-half, Fatehpur scored three more goals through Muhammad Ali, Janbaz Khan and Jawad Ali to give their team an unconquerable 6-0 lead and thus seal the fate of the match. In the other match, Shinning Stars were put ahead in the 9th minute by Aurangzeb Khan on a field attempt but Swat Red’s Javed was quick to level it 1-1.

Again, fullback Iftikhar slammed a goal off a penalty corner to put Shinning Stars 2-1 ahead but this time, too, vigilant Javed rushed to level it 2-2 in the 27th minute. The two sides made some combined moves after 2-all, which resulted in a 49th minute goal by Jehanzaib Khan for Swat Red.

But Shinning Stars’ Jan Gul and Khalid dashed the rivals’ hopes by scoring one goal each on field attempts in the 56th and 60th minutes to make it 4-3 and seal the match.—APP
