Setback for Super League
LAHORE, July 28: The proposed Super Hockey League received a setback before its launching when European players refused to take part in the event because of security concerns. Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) much-awaited Super League will be played from Sept 8 to 18 in Karachi. After Europeans’ refusal, only India and Malaysia will be the foreign countries to send their players.
PHF invited players from three European countries, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium besides India and Malaysia.
The event is to be played under lights.
India and Malaysia will send their top six players and one player from each country will be in six participating teams.
The participating teams are Shan-e-Punjab, Sindh Qalanders, Baloch Lions, Frontier Falcons, Northern Cavaliers and Capital Dynamos. Northern Cavalier comprises players from Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas.
The series will be played on India’s Premier Hockey League played last year.—APP
