PIA joins WBCSD

KARACHI, July 28: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a coalition of 175 international companies from 35 countries and 20 major industrial sectors.

According to a press release, some of the member companies include Dupont, Boston Consulting Group, Chevron Texaco, General Electric, General Motors, China Petrochemical Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Deutsche Bank, Unilever, Petro Canada and Pakistan State Oil.

It said the aim of the WBCSD was to provide business leadership as a means for change towards sustainable development, and to promote the role of eco-efficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility.

It further said that the member companies support and contribute to the WBCSD by making avilable their knowledge, expertise, human resources and publicly report on their environmental performance and seek to widen their reporting covering the major aspects of sustainable development i.e. economic, social and environmental.

It will be unique opportunity for the PIA to collaborate with the WBCSD and discuss strategic issues where business leaders can analyze and debate views and experiences on all aspects of sustainable development, the press release added.
