"Initial investigations indicate that a bomb partly detonated at at least four of the locations... At this stage it's too early to tell how these were detonated," Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Any Hayman told a press conference. "At this stage it is believed that the devices consisted of home-made explosives and were contained in dark coloured bags or rucksacks." Based on witness accounts of the bombs, explosives experts have said they were probably made of the same acetone peroxide mixture which was used in the July 7 London suicide bombings, which killed 56 people. But they said acetone peroxide degraded rapidly, which if the bombs were prepared together with those used on July 7 could explain why the second wave of attacks failed.(Posted @ 20:40 PST) Rice pledges support to Lebanon on surprise visit BEIRUT, July 22 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a surprise visit to Lebanon under heavy security on Friday to show U.S. support for the new government, the first to be formed since Syrian forces withdrew in April.
