KARACHI, July 18: Police on Monday arrested six members of a criminal gang, linked with the notorious gangster Arshad alias Pappu, and recovered a cache of weapons from their possession. Police said that Allahdad had been operating with his gang members in different areas of Lyari and involved in extortion, drug peddling, street crimes and mobile phone snatching. The Industrial Crime Unit, headed by DSPs Aslam Khan and Irfan Bahadur, raided a hideout and arrested Allahdad, his son Mobin alias Bobi, besides apprehending his gang members Jawed Pathan, Hafeez, Rashid, and Ishaque alias Marshal.

The police recovered three Kalashnikov rifles, four repeaters, one 7mm rifle, two TT pistols, three kilograms of opium and ammunition from them.

According to the police, Allahdad was wanted in more than 70 criminal cases.

TPO Lyari Omar Shahid Hamid said that Badshah Khan gang, being run by Allahdad, was the third largest criminal group in Lyari after Rehman Dakait and Arshad Pappu gangs. He disclosed that Allahdad was providing shelter to gangsters of Arshad Pappu group.

ROBBERY: A man was robbed of 2,800 British pounds by two persons impersonating as policemen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. Police said that the victim, Zubair Shamsi, had returned from England early Monday morning. The two suspects in a car intercepted the cab he had hired from the airport when it reached near his house in Block 13 D-1.

The impersonators told him that he would have to get his luggage checked in connection with the security prompted by the recent London bombings as he had come from England.

During search of his hand bag, they found 2,800 pounds. The suspects grabbed the bag and escaped in their car. The bag also contained some cellphones and credit cards.

The victim has lodged an FIR at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station. Police said that the number plate of the suspects’ car was fake.
