The sources said a group of armed men belonging to the al-Kazim clan tried to storm a detention facility attached to a police compound in an effort to free fellow clansmen detained there. Stung by criticisms that Islamic leaders have not done enough to condemn the blasts blamed by police on British Muslims, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent the spot to television stations across the United States.(Posted @ 22:55 PST) At least 15 rebels killed in Colombia Bogota (dpa) - The Colombian military said Thursday it had killed at least 15 fighters from the left wing National Liberation Army (ELN) in the southwestern region. The military had also uncovered and secured large numbers of weapons and munitions in Jamundi, said General Hernando Perez. ELN, with 8,000 armed men and women, is Colombia's second largest guerrilla organization. "I want you to hand over these foreigners or send them out yourselves or we will launch an operation against them after the deadline," Sahi told a tribal council in Miranshah, the main town of the semi-autonomous region. "No one should then complain to us after the operation is launched." Sahi assured the council, or jirga, that foreigners living peacefully would not be harmed but resistance would be met firmly. "This time we will not show a soft hand. There will be no delay in the operation if the foreigners are not flushed out," he said. Khamis Farhan Khalaf Abed al-Fahdawi, also known as Abu Seba, was captured Saturday by US-led forces in the flashpoint city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, a statement said. "They went onto those tubes or bus to kill, and presumably accepted they would be killed," Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair told foreign journalists in London. "You don't need to be a suicide bomber in a liberal democracy. They've chosen to be." "This does have every hallmark of Al-Qaeda," he added. "That makes things very different." Most terrorist organisations used bomb attacks to force governments to the negotiating table, he explained, noting: "What we have here is people bombing the table."He confirmed that police have identified the four bombers and that three were British nationals but declined to comment on reports that the fourth was a Jamaican-born Briton .(Posted @ 19:50 PST) Three more pro-Russia troops killed in Chechnya VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia, July 14 (AFP) - Three pro-Russian troops were killed and 13 injured in attacks by militants in Chechnya over a 24-hour period, a local government official said Thursday, adding that two rebels also died during the clashes. One Russian serviceman died and seven were wounded in attacks on military positions, which came under fire 10 times in the period, said the official, who asked not to be named. Two other Russian soldiers were injured when their vehicle came under fire in the southeastern region of Shali.In other attacks, a pro-Moscow Chechen policeman was killed and another injured during an operation in the village of Gurmenchuk. A rebel was also killed in that incident. And a policeman was killed in the capital Grozny when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb. Three other policemen were injured when they came under rebel fire in the southern region of Nozhai-Yurt. One rebel was also killed. "The militants are hiding in the area and we are going all out to seek them," said Batra. He declined to estimate the number . Meanwhile, in a separate clash Indian troops Thursday shot dead two militants in the adjoining northern Kupwara district, Batra said, adding a large cache of arms and explosives had been recovered. In further violence, four militants and a soldier were killed in three separate clashes in the districts of Anantnag in the south and Kupwara in the north, the spokesman said. The deals comprise a 40 km (25 mile) oil pipeline between Basra and Abadan , using Iran's Caspian ports to import refined fuels into Iraq from central Asia and linking the electricity grid of the two countries, the official said. Mismanagement and sabotage against power facilities have turned Iraq into an importer of refined fuels, mostly from Turkey and the Gulf, after the U.S.-invasion in 2003, and created severe energy shortages. Railway officials said they were trying to identify nearly 100 unclaimed bodies, which lay shrouded by white sheets in the courtyard of the small government hospital nearly 36 hours after the collision. Ice-blocks and pedestal fans were used to cool the bodies because of lack of a nearby mortuary. "We have so far handed 37 bodies to their relatives but 96 bodies are still lying at the hospital as their identification has not yet been established," railway police officer Shafi Mohammad Mughal told AFP. "Most of the unclaimed bodies do not have faces and heads and we have gathered hands, feet and torsos," said Amanullah, a volunteer from the private Edhi Welfare Trust, Pakistan's largest charity.
