Indiscipline: 2 Attock PPP office-bearers suspended

By Our Correspondent

ATTOCK, July 12: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Attock city President Mohammad Naveed has suspended party’s senior vice-president and general secretary on charges of violating party discipline. According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, Senior Vice-President Firdous Khan and General Secretary Ghayasuddin have also been served show cause notices and asked to explain their position within 10 days, otherwise their services would be terminated.

The statement said explanation had also been sought from Vice President Bashir Ahmed for extending support to the suspended officials.

The PPP president, in the statement, said on June 9, a notice was issued to the general secretary asking him to convene a joint meeting of PPP organizations of Attock tehsil and People’s Youth Wing on June 10 to discuss issues relating to forthcoming local bodies elections. But, he (Ghayasuddin) did not comply with the notice and replied in writing that the president could not call a meeting without his consent, while it also not possible to hold it on such short notice. The reply was endorsed by the senior vice-president and the vice-president.

However, exercising his powers, the president convened the meeting on the same day, in which members unanimously passed a resolution, proposing strict disciplinary action against the general secretary, senior vice-president and vice-president.

Mohammad Naveed further alleged that the suspended office- bearers were also involved in anti-party activities and misconduct, and reluctant to improve their attitude despite frequent warnings causing great set back to the party.

GENERAL SECRETARY’S VERSION: Meanwhile, rejecting the suspension orders, Ghayasuddin said the PPP president had no authority to take action against him and his two colleagues as only the district president was authorized to do so.

Secondly, he said, the president could not call a meeting without his consent. He said five out of the total eight office- bearers of the city organization did not agree on holding of meeting, therefore, he informed the president accordingly.
