Three arrested with 12 KG hashish MULTAN, July 12 (APP): The police have arrested three drug traffickers and recovered twelve kilogram of hashish from their possession, said DPO Khanewal Zafar Abbas Bukhari here Tuesday. The accused Ghulam Yasin, Muhammad Ashraf and Aslam were arrested from different areas including Kukar Hattan-Kabirwala road, and Chak 9/m Makhdoompur. Bill Clinton to push AIDS initiative on Africa tour NEW YORK, July 12 (AFP) - Former US President Bill Clinton will embark on a week-long, six-nation African tour this weekend aimed at boosting the work of his foundation in combatting the scourge of AIDS in the continent.Ira Magaziner, who heads up the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative, said Tuesday that the visit to Mozambique, Lesotho, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda would seek to "reinvigorate political will" in those countries for scaling up AIDS treatment programmes. Four identified as prime suspects in London bombing LONDON, July 12 (AFP) - Police believed Thursday they had identified four men as prime suspects in the London bombing, as they prepared to question a man arrested during raids in the north of England. "We are conducting a complex and intensive terrorist investigation and I have to tell you that this investigation is moving at great speed," said Peter Clarke, head of the Metropolitan Police anti-terrorist branch. "We also have very strong forensic and other evidence that it is very likely one of the men from West Yorkshire died in the explosion at Aldgate" in east London, Clarke told a late-day press conference. Annan to undergo surgery for shoulder injury New York (dpa) - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his right shoulder, which was injured during a cross-country skying exercise, a spokesman said Tuesday. Victory gave world champions Australia the series 2-1 after they'd cancelled out England's nine-wicket opening win at Headingley on Thursday with a seven-wicket success at Lord's on Sunday. Pakistan on path of high-tech research, training: Musharraf KARACHI, July 12 (APP): President General Pervez Musharraf said Tuesday that Pakistan has embarked on the path of scientific and technological research in various fields including health, agriculture and environment. He was speaking at the launching ceremony of the newly evolved retro-differential stem cell technology, which he said was a breakthrough achievement of Pakistani scientists in coordination with Saudi experts. The President noted that Pakistani scientists associated with the Center of Excellence of Molecular Biology, Punjab University, have also produced cells to repair heart damages. President Musharraf said the country has made a marked leap forward in research and "we now have no less than 800 researchers enrolled with Ph.D programme in the fields of science and technology." 150,000 pilgrims to perform Hajj, fare remains same ISLAMABAD, Jul 12 (APP): As many as 150,000 intending pilgrims will perform Hajj (Pilgrimage) this year under the Hajj Policy-2006 announced here Tuesday. Out of 150,000 pilgrims 90,000 will perform Hajj under government scheme and 60,000 under the private scheme. Haj flights will operate from eight cities I viz Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar,Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan and Sukkur. PIA fare for intending pilgrims will remain the same as last year, but accommodation charges will go up as more spacious accommodation will be provided. Pakistan, Germany to boost trade, cooperate against terrorism BERLIN, July 12 (APP): Pakistan and Germany Tuesday agreed to enhance cooperation in the war against terrorism besides promoting economic and trade ties for the benefit of the two peoples. Addressing a joint press conference after an hour long "extensive" formal talks with the visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said: "We are together in this agenda and will continue to extend cooperation to each other." Kalabagh Dam would have averted current flood situation: President KARACHI, July 12 (APP): President General Pervez Musharraf said Tuesday had Kalabagh Dam been built in time, the present flood situation could have been averted and sufficient water stored for proper utilization during water shortage spells. Police find suspected car in London bombings LONDON, July 12 (Reuters) - British police closed down Luton railway station north of the capital on Tuesday to recover a car suspected of being involved in last week's London bomb attacks. "Police believe the vehicle may be connected to the terrorist attacks in London on July 7 and will be examined in the car park for safety reasons before being taken away to a secure location," police said in a statement. 10 more pro-Russia servicemen killed, 14 injured in Chechnya VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia, July 12 (AFP) - Ten pro-Russian troops have been killed and 14 injured in the past 24 hours in Russia's war-torn Caucasus republic of Chechnya, an official said Tuesday. Four servicemen died and four others were wounded in attacks on military positions that came under fire 15 times in the period. In addition, two Russian servicemen died and three were injured after rebels attacked their unit near the village of Kharsinoi in the mountainous southern region of Shatoi. Three troops died and three were injured after their armored personnel carrier hit a roadside mine near the village of Dubai-Yurt in the Shali region, southeast of the capital Grozny. Three Chechen policemen were injured after coming under fire on the outskirts of Urus-Martan, a town southwest of Grozny. Also, one Chechen policeman died and one was injured in Grozny's Zavodskoi region. No figures of rebel casualties were available. India and Pakistan make 'good progress' in talks on Iran gas pipeline NEW DELHI, July 12 (AFP) - Indian and Pakistani officials made "good progress" Tuesday in talks on the nuts and bolts of a planned multi-billion- dollar Iran-India gas pipeline that would run through Pakistan, officials said. "A range of issues was discussed, including technical, commercial, financial and legal," Pakistan's Petroleum Secretary Ahmed Waqar said at the end of the first of two days of scheduled talks in the Indian capital. "All sets of issues were discussed in an open and candid manner," Waqar said according to the Press Trust of India news agency. "We have some understanding on most of the issues. Gastro-enteritis claims another 42 lives in Pakistan MULTAN, July 12 (AFP) - At least 42 people have died from gastro enteritis in Punjab province in Pakistan and hundreds more have been admitted to hospitals over the past two weeks, health officials said Tuesday blaming polluted water. "It has reached epidemic level," doctor Fahim Javed from the Nishtar Medical College Multan told AFP.In Multan alone it has claimed 21 lives since June 21," he Said. Another 16 have died in nearby Rahim Yar Khan district, three in Dera Ghazi Khan and two in Jahanian town, health officials said."We have been receiving almost 100 patients daily," Javed said adding that some 1,400 patients had been treated over the past two weeks.The city's children hospital had also received 50 to 60 cases each day on average, he added. At least 104 patients remained in Nishtar hospital on Tuesday and some of them were in a serious condition, the doctor said. "The cause of this epidemic seems to be polluted water," he added. Hundreds evacuated in Leeds for controlled explosion LEEDS, England, July 12 (AFP) - Some 500 to 600 people were evacuated from their homes in Leeds on Tuesday where a controlled explosion was carried out following anti-terrorist raids in the northern English city, police said. Taliban claim six Afghan policemen killed in attack on checkpoint Kabul (dpa) - Taliban on Tuesday claimed to have killed six Afghan policemen in the southeastern province of Logar, after attacking a security checkpoint there. Speaking by telephone from an unknown location, Mufti Latifullah Hakimi, Taliban spokesman, said that the rebels attacked the police checkpoint in Pul-e-Alam, capital of Logar province on Monday night. Two Taliban were seriously injured during the armed clash, he said. Afghan officials were not immediately available for comments.

Security incidents in Iraq, July 12 BAGHDAD, July 12 (Reuters) - Three civilians were killed and 15 wounded when a suicide car bomber blew up in a crowded street after a U.S military convoy had passed in the northern oil city of Kirkuk, police said. Rice arrives in South Korea ahead of NKorea nuclear talks SEOUL, July 12 (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in South Korea Tuesday to coordinate positions on North Korea which is returning to talks on its nuclear program. Afghans say five militants arrested, bomb attacks foiled KABUL, July 12 (AFP) - Afghan authorities said Tuesday they arrested five men and foiled a series of planned bombings across the country as militants step up attacks ahead of September parliamentary polls. Police chief says another London attack 'likely' LONDON, July 12 (AFP) - Another terrorist attack in London is "likely", but the timing is unknown, the head of the British capital's Metropolitan Police, Sir Ian Blair, said Tuesday.
