KARACHI: Drain near graveyard flooding area

KARACHI, July 7: Visitors to the Sakhi Hasan Graveyard complain that the place gets submerged in filthy water flowing from a surrounding locality into a storm water drain passing across the graveyard. The drain carrying all sorts of foul smelling waste is not only a cause of extreme nuisance, often making breathing difficult for the visitors but also the water which when overflows, makes mobility of visitors extremely difficult.

People frequenting the graveyard are specifically concerned that the monsoon is about to set in and like past years filthy water would enter into the graves close to the drain submerging even the epitaphs.

Mustafa Ahmed, with his parents buried there expressed his serious concern over why a drain had been allowed to pass through a graveyard.

It is also astonishing to note that another well-built storm water drain located outside the premises of the very graveyard is unutilised.

A caretaker at the graveyard said that letters had been frequently written to the concerned authorities to close the “nullah” running across the site and make the one available outside the graveyard properly functional.

Many of the visitors also called for the need to properly cover the drain so that smell could be contained and nuisance caused was prevented.
