The German business daily reported that Tiscali would like to build a network in the greater Frankfurt area by the end of the year.(Posted @ 23:05 PST) Three soldiers, two policemen killed in Chechnya VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia, July 7 (AFP) - Three Russian soldiers and two pro-Russian Chechen policemen have been killed in the last 24 hours in Chechnya, an official in the local government told AFP on Thursday. The official, who asked not to be named, said two of the soldiers were killed when the lorry they were travelling in ran over a mine in the village of Duba-Yurt, southeast of the regional capital Grozny. The third soldier was accidentally shot by a colleague in Khankala, south of the capital. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said earlier this week that so far this year, 51 soldiers have been killed as a result of separatist attacks, shoot-outs and mine blasts in Chechnya.(Posted @ 23:00 PST)
Two suspected Taliban militants killed in southern Afghanistan KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, July 7 (AFP) - Two suspected Taliban militants were killed and three others captured after they ambushed a police checkpost in southern Afghanistan, police said Thursday. Two policemen were also wounded in the attack late Wednesday in a remote village near the town of Spin Boldak on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, Abdul Wasy, Spin Boldak police chief, told AFP. The firing between the suspected Taliban militants and police lasted one and half hours. "The situation is serious," the director-general of Pakistan's Meteorogical Department, Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry, told Reuters. The volume of water released into the Chenab was about 566,000 cusecs, he said adding that "we are expecting heavy floods in some parts of northern Punjab," he said. Police said they did not know how many people had died in the fourth attack, which devastated a bus.
