The latest victim was Tajammul Hussain of Gulshan Hadeed. He was employee of Pakistan Steel Mills and vice-president of a labour union of Pakistan Steel. He was gunned down with automatic weapons near his house when he came out of it to offer Fajjar prayers. Fifty-year-old Tajammul Hussain left behind a widow, two sons and a daughter. The press release said that he was a known social personality of the area and had been receiving threats from terrorists and extortionists since many days.(Posted @ 23:00 PST) 5 killed, 5 injured in two accidents KASUR, July 3 (APP)- Five passengers were killed and five others injured in two road accidents on Sunday in the district. A bus (LHP-579) was going to Phoolnagar from Morkhunda, when reached near Phoolnagar grid station it collided with an auto-rickshaw, killing Shafique, Sagheer and Tahir on the spot. In another road mishap, a bus (KTA 6588) carrying a wedding party from village Bhela Btharr to Mata and on reaching near Bhala, the bus hit a motorcyclist, killing Pervaiz Masih and co-rider Bagun Masih on the spot. According to details, some unknown persons came to Al Aziz Coach office located at Sariab road close to Overhead bridge. They opened indiscriminate firing on the office. As a result three persons Humayun Khan a shopkeeper, Zakaria and another unknown sustained gun shots.(Posted @ 21:50 PST) Military aircraft crashes in northern Yemen - pilot injured Sana'a, Yemen (dpa) - A Yemeni airforce fighter jet crashed in a mountainous area in the north of the country Sunday, injuring its pilot, witnesses said. The witnesses told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that a Russian-made Mig-29 combat jet went down in a farming area in the Dhibin district of Amran province, nearly 70 kilometres north of the capital Sana'a. A military helicopter was sent to the area to airlift the pilot who was injured after ejecting, they said. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.(Posted @ 21:45 PST)
11 die in Kashmir as ministers escape landmine attack SRINAGAR, July 3 (AFP) - Two senior state ministers in Indian held Kashmir narrowly escaped a landmine blast which injured six policemen while 11 people died in militant violence in the revolt-wracked state, police said Sunday.Rural development minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed and roads and buildings minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir missed the blast by seconds as their convoy passed a village near the northern town of Sopore, police said.Six policemen, including a senior officer, travelling in an escort vehicle behind the ministers' cars were injured in the blast.(Posted @ 20:58 PST) Missing US soldier found alive in Afghanistan WASHINGTON, July 3 (AFP) One member of a US special operations team missing in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan has been rescued, US television reported Sunday. CNN television reported that there was no word on the fate of three other soldiers, who were part of the same special forces team missing since suspected Taliban rebels shot down a US helicopter during an attempt to extract the team five days ago. (Posted @ 20:55 PST) First hydrogen plane tested in US ISLAMABAD, Jul 3 (APP): A US company said it has successfully completed test flights of a potentially environment-friendly aircraft powered by liquid hydrogen. Liquid hydrogen stored onboard and oxygen extracted from the air are combined in fuel cells. The electricity generated drives the propellers, BBC radio reported. California-based AeroVironment says a full tank of hydrogen would keep the unmanned plane in the air for 24 hours. The militants were killed late Saturday and Sunday in three separate gunbattles in the districts of Anantnag and Pulwama in the south and Baramulla in the north, a police spokesman said. The fire, which occurred at around noon, burned down the entire factory which produced pesticide, police said, adding that some 100 firemen and 30 fire brigades were dispatched to battle the fire, which was brought under control four hours later. According to police, several explosions hit the factory which was gutted by fire but there were no fatalities. The experts onboard a ship are conducting tests for localization of the fault in the deep sea about 56 kilometers from Karachi. The consortium, which owned the SEAMEWE-3, appointed a UAE-based firm, E-Marine, for repairing the fault that had developed on June 27.
