KARACHI: Polls on party basis sought

KARACHI, June 28: The local bodies’ polls should be held on party basis and through the process of joint electorate. This was demanded by the speakers at a meeting arranged by past and present councillors’ association here on Tuesday.

The agenda of the meeting was the ‘reforms’ in the local government elections. Deputy leader of opposition in Karachi City Council, Mehfoozun Nabi Khan, presided over the moot.

The meeting also demanded that minorities should be allowed to exercise double right of vote for the special minority seat as well as the general seats.

Javed Latif, Shamim Siddiqui, Allaudin Alvi, Raees Ahmed, and Mangla Sharma also spoke. — PPI
