Ershad’s wife released

Published June 28, 2005

DHAKA, June 27: Bidisha Ershad, estranged wife of former president General H M Ershad, was released on bail from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on Monday evening, 23 days after her arrest. Bidisha was arrested on the charges of theft, cheating and ransacking the house of Mr Ershad on June 4.

Later, three more cases -– relating to adultery, forgery and money laundering –- were filed against her.

Looking pale and dismal, Bidisha walked out of the prison cell gate propping herself on the shoulders of her sister and father at about 7pm.

No political leader or activist, not even from the Jatiya Party in which she had enjoyed a top-ranking position until her husband had her sacked, turned out to see her at the time of her release.
