KARACHI: Two held for killing KSE member

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 22: Police on Wednesday arrested a young woman and a man for killing Amanullah Marfani, a member of Karachi Stock Exchange. Trussed-up body of Amanullah Marfani was recovered from Gulistan-i-Jauhar on June 18, after he had gone missing earlier in the day.

DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal told Dawn that investigation of the case had revealed that the deceased had met Tehseen Shahida, 26, at the traffic signal of Khayaban-i-Bharia, DHA. They exchanged telephone numbers and their affair lasted for about a month until they decided to see each other at Usmania Restaurant in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on June 18.

Amanullah Marfani, 45, informed his friend Ghulam Husain that he was going to see a girl. Subsequently, Husain followed them from a safe distance. The couple decided to go to an apartment in A-One Complex, Gulistan-i-Jauhar to spend some time. Husain waited outside the complex and decided to go away after a prolong wait, the DIG said.

Manzoor Mughal said that as the two were in the apartment, Azhar Husain Abdi, 34, came there and introduced himself as Tehseen’s husband. He threatened to kill Marfani as Karo and demanded Rs2 million. Azhar took out a pistol and tied Marfani with ropes and tapped his face so that he could not scream. Subsequently, Marfani died of suffocation due to the tapping of his face.

Azhar dumped the body in Block-6 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar using his own car. Later, the young woman drove Marfani’s car and abandoned it at University Road. Police recovered it later near Safari Park.

According to police and family sources, Amanullah Marfani left home at 11am on June 18, saying that he would return by 3pm. When he did not return, the family got worried and contacted him on the cell phone which was attended by a woman, who told them that Marfani’s car had been abandoned on University Road.

After initial investigation, police came to know about Marfani’s visit to A-One Complex along with the woman. In the meantime, Azhar shifted his wife Nadra to his apartment in A-One Complex in an attempt to prove his innocence. Police picked up Azhar and his wife from the apartment. During interrogation, Azhar confessed the crime and disclosed the location of Tehseen, the DIG said.
