KARACHI, June 21: The city received showers at different places on Tuesday afternoon; however these showers failed to bring down the temperature when mercury rose to 40.8 degrees Centigrade. A spokesman for the Pakistan Meteorological Department said the temperature ranged between 40.8 and 29 degrees Centigrade on Tuesday.
He added that the humidity level dropped to 50 per cent from Monday’s 62 per cent and declared Tuesday as the hottest day of the month.
The Met office spokesman recalled that the maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday were 38.8 and 29 degrees Centigrade, respectively.
He said Wednesday would be another hot and humid day, with chances of rain and thunderstorm.
The Met office has forecast hot and humid weather with chances of dust/thunderstorm and rain at few places in Karachi with the maximum temperature expected to range between 38 and 40 degrees Centigrade on Wednesday, add agencies.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that Monday’s low pressure over northeast Arabian Sea had moved northwest wards and now lies about 300kms southeast of Karachi.
It is likely to move in a westerly direction under its influence winds at sea and along the coast might blow from southeast/northeast, 25-30 knots, gusting to 40 knots.
Sea conditions are likely to be rough near coast and very rough in deep sea. Fishermen especially small boats are advised not to venture in the open sea.
In view of rains in the interior of Sindh and Karachi, KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftekhar Hyder has appealed to the people to use boiled water for protection against epidemics.
He advised the parents to take care of their children using ice-made eatables and see that they do not go into contaminated water for bathing while people should also use underground water after boiling.
