India and Bangladesh seal border agreements, trade deals at marathon meeting NEW DELHI, June 21 (AFP) - India and Bangladesh agreed Tuesday to several measures aimed at easing tensions along their border, which is the scene of frequent bloody clashes between security forces from the two countries, officials said. The two sides decided after marathon talks to restart meetings of a boundary working group from August, as well as increase joint patrolling of waterways along the border, which has been a constant source of tension since Bangladesh's creation in 1971. No peace in South Asia without fulfillment of Kashmiris' wishes: PM ISLAMABAD, June 21 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Tuesday peace in South Asia cannot be established unless the aspirations and wishes of the people of Kashmir are met. He made these remarks in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, who discussed the recent visit of Kashmiri leaders, budget and development projects in Azad Kashmir. Pakistani camel kids return home Islamabad (dpa) - At least 23 children smuggled into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be used as jockeys in camel races returned home Tuesday. Indian army offers roadmap to demilitarise world's highest battlefield NEW DELHI, June 21 (AFP) - The Indian army said Tuesday it has prepared a roadmap for the withdrawal of troops from the world's highest battlefield, the Siachen glacier, which overlooks Pakistan and China. "We have given our viewpoint to the government on converting the Saltoro ridge and the glacier into a demilitarized zone," army chief general J.J. Singh said, declining to give further details. Bush, Musharraf discuss war on terrorism WASHINGTON, June 21 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf discussed the war on terrorism by telephone Tuesday, according to White House spokesman Scott McClellan. "They discussed good cooperation in the war on terrorism" as well as developments in Afghanistan and India-Pakistan relations during their 15-minute conversation, McClellan told reporters. Pakistan violated Kashmir bus agreement: Indian PM NEW DELHI, June 21 (AFP) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accused Pakistan Tuesday of violating a bilateral travel agreement on the newly launched trans-Kashmir bus service. Singh said Pakistan breached the pact earlier this month by allowing Kashmiri separatists to travel beyond Pakistan-administered Kashmir to Islamabad where they held talks with President Pervez Musharraf. He made the comments in a letter to former premier Atal Behari Vajpayee who criticised the government's policy on the separatists' visit. Singh also rejected a proposal by Musharraf that the international community be made a "guarantor" of a resolution of the dispute over Kashmir. Palestinian hardliners slam Abbas for meeting Sharon in Jerusalem GAZA CITY, June 21 (AFP) - Hardline factions united to condemn Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas Tuesday for meeting Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at his Jerusalem residence. Hamas said Abbas's decision would only help legitimise Israel's sovereignty claims. Khaled el-Batsh, a Gaza-based leader of the smaller Islamic Jihad movement, also criticised Abbas for meeting Sharon following the arrest of dozens of the group's members overnight. Five killed in Israel train crash-rescue service JERUSALEM, June 21 (Reuters) - Five people were killed and at least 60 injured when a passenger train crashed into a truck in central Israel on Tuesday, Israel's Zaka rescue service said. Afghans, US kill 32 Taliban, retake district-police KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 21 (Reuters) - Hundreds of Afghan police, backed by U.S. air strikes, retook control of Mian Nishin district of Kandahar province that was overrun by the Taliban last week,killing 32 fleeing guerrillas and capturing at least 15, police said. Before dawn on Tuesday, about 400 police officers advanced on the district capital and the guerrillas fled, said Salim Khan, the deputy provincial police chief. "We chased the Taliban to an area 10 km (6 miles) north,"he told Reuters. "We found them in a village called Murghai and as a result of the clashes there, 11 Taliban were killed and 15 suspects were arrested." Khan said the 11 were killed by the police, while another 21 who had taken refuge in a nearby village were killed by U.S.air strikes . A spokesman for the U.S. military said he had no immediate information on the operation. Main Kashmiri rebel group calls for jihad, rejects ceasefire with India MUZAFFARABAD, June 21 (AFP) – Indian occupied Kashmir's main faction of freedom fighters Tuesday rejected calls for a ceasefire in the troubled Himalayan region and instead told militants to prepare for "holy war". Syed Salahuddin, supreme commander of Hizbul Mujahedin, also dismissed the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan as "a waste of time." "The need for an organised and massive armed struggle has increased today more than ever and the Kashmiri youth need to prepare themselves for fighting in maximum numbers," Salahuddin told AFP. Salahuddin’s group announced a unilateral ceasefire five years ago but reversed it within two weeks, reiterated demands that India scale back its troops' presence in occupied Kashmir to pre-1989 positions, release all Kashmiris from Indian jails and stop alleged human rights violations. Seven killed, buildings flattened in China blast BEIJING, June 21 (Reuters) - Thousands of detonators exploded at a Chinese chemicals plant, destroying a row of buildings and killing seven people, Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday. The accident occurred in Meishan, southwest Sichuan province, on Monday, and eight people were injured and two were missing. "Preliminary investigations show the accident was caused byan operation error when workers were fixing detonators," Xinhua said, quoting police sources. "There were about 13,000 detonators (at the plant) when the accident took place." Saudi forces shoot dead policeman's killers -TV JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, June 21 (Reuters) - Saudi security forces on Tuesday shot dead two suspected militants who killed a policeman in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, state television reported. The dead men were members of the "deviant group", a phrase which officials use to describe al Qaeda supporters , it said.They were driving near Jeddah early Tuesday and after a chase they were surrounded in a building and shot dead in a clash which also injured three members of the security forces, one seriously. Bomb kills anti-Syrian politician in Beirut BEIRUT, June 21 (Reuters) - An anti-Syrian politician in Lebanon was killed on Tuesday when a bomb ripped through his Car. George Hawi, a former leader of the Lebanese Communist Party, died instantly in the blast in the Wata Musaitbi neighbourhood of Beirut, witnesses and security sources. Israel makes wave of arrests JERUSALEM, June 21 (AFP) - The Israeli army early Tuesday made 50 arrests of Islamic Jihad activists following a series of attacks by the radical movement, a military source said. Three Muslims killed while praying in Thai south BANGKOK, June 21 (AFP) - Suspected separatists shot dead three Muslim men, including one found clutching a holy Quran, in the latest killings in southern Thailand, police said Tuesday.
