12 lawyers recommended as SC advocates

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 20: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has recommended 12 senior lawyers for enrolment as advocates of the Supreme Court. In a statement issued here Monday the PBC enrolment committee, which met in Karachi on Saturday last, took up 20 applications for enrolment as advocate of the apex court and an enrolment appeal against the decision of the Sindh Bar Council.

After interviewing the applicants, the committee decided to enrol Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Ziaul Haq, Anwar Hussain, Muhammad Ikram Siddiqui, Mumtaz Ali Khan Deshmukh, Khawaja Shamsul Islam, Zia Ahmed Awan, Abdul Rauf Khan, Faisal Arab, Nadeem Akhtar, Azizur Rehman and Muhammad Akhtar, all from Karachi.

Two applications were deferred for next meeting and five were adjourned since they were not present during the committee meeting.

The case of another applicant was also adjourned since he failed to submit his particulars about his earlier job before joining legal profession.

The committee dismissed enrolment appeal of Amanullah Ansari, for non-prosecution, against the decision of the Sindh Bar Council, which had refused his enrolment as an advocate on the grounds of his dismissal from service. His case was rejected as he failed to appear constantly before the committee during previous hearings.

The meeting was presided over by Supreme Court Chief Justice-designate Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari and Rasheed A. Razvi as members.
