First Pakistan-India football series ends in a draw LAHORE, Pakistan, June 18 (AFP) - Pakistan claimed their first ever home victory over India on Saturday with an emphatic 3-0 win which ensured the arch-rivals' inaugural football series ended in a draw. A second-minute Mohammad Essa strike put India immediately on the back foot before Tanveer Ahmed and Arif Mahmood killed off the match. Pakistan had needed the win after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat in the second of their three-match series on Thursday. The first game ended 1-1. Although the series was declared drawn, Pakistan will keep the trophy by virtue of their superior goal difference. Chinese Foreign Minister: Mideast peace solution lies in road map Amman (dpa) - Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing on Saturday called for the resumption of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians on the basis of the "roadmap" peace agreement, which he said represented "an effective solution" in the quest for peace. Nigerian kidnappers release hostages unharmed in no-cash deal LAGOS, June 18 (AFP) - All six hostages, including two German oil engineers, taken hostage by ethnic Ijaw militants in a volatile part of southern Nigeria, were released unharmed Saturday, a regional government spokesman said."The deputy governor has sent someone to the area this morning to secure the release of the hostages, and after having been received and welcomed to the government palace, they have been handed over to the management of their company," said Preye Warowei, spokesman for the government of Bayelsa state.(Posted @ 23:05 PST)

Etisalat of UAE wins 26 percent stake in Pakistan telecom giant PTCL ISLAMABAD, June 18 (AFP) - Pakistan Saturday sold a 26 percent stake in its largest telecom company PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company) for 2.59 billion dollars to Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates. Etisalat's offer of 1.96 dollars a share outbid those of China Mobile and SingTel of Singapore which offered 1.06 dollar and 0.88 dollar per share respectively.The deal is worth over US dollars 2.598 billion. President Musharraf holds talks with New Zealand PM AUCKLAND, June 18 (APP) : President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Helen Clark continued discussions informally here on Saturday, with the New Zealand leader accepting an invitation to visit Pakistan in the near future. Zalmay's allegations baselesss ISLAMABAD, June 18 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has termed the allegations of the outgoing US ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalildzad as baseless and unfounded. Saudi Arabia seeks medical specialists, doctors, nurses from Pakistan ISLAMABAD, Jun 18 (APP): Saudi Arabia has requested Pakistan to provide as many medical specialists, doctors, pathologists and nurses to the kingdom as it can spare, officials said. Deputy Health Minister of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Obied Sulmain-ul-Obied,conveyed the request during a meeting with Federal Health Minister Mohammad Nasir here Saturday. President says Pakistan, India can overcome obstacles AUCKLAND, June 18 (APP): President General Pervez Musharraf Saturday said Pakistan is making efforts for lasting peace in the region through an amicable resolution of the long-running Jammu and Kashmir dispute with India and stressed that the two sides can overcome obstacles with courage and determination. Two Afghan refugee camps in Balochistan to be closed QUETTA, June 18 (APP): Government has decided to close two Afghan refugee camps located at Jungle Pir Alizai and Girdi Jungle near Pak-Afghan border in Qila Abdullah and Chagai districts respectively, Chief Commissioner Afghan Refugees Jahangir Khan Tareen announced at a meeting here Saturday . DIALOGUE ON KASHMIR INVOLVING KASHMIRIS HAS BEGUN: APHC LEADERS SRINAGAR, June 18 (APP): APHC and other Kashmiri leaders who were on a two- week visit to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan have said that a meaningful dialogue on Kashmir has begun with the involvement of Kashmiris. Kashmir Media Service reported that APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told media persons :"Now India has to show sincerity and contribute her bit in taking the dialogue process to the logical conclusion”. In the second phase all three parties, Pakistan, India and Jammu and Kashmir , should deliberate to work out an acceptable solution. 17 leftist militants killed in eastern Turkey Ankara (dpa) - Turkish security forces have killed 17 members of an illegal leftist group during a massive operation in the eastern province of Tunceli, the Anadolu news agency reported Saturday. US criticises Pakistan on fugitive Taliban leaders KABUL, June 18 (Reuters) - The outgoing US ambassador to Afghanistan has suggested that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has been hiding in Pakistan and sharply criticized Islamabad's failure to act against Taliban leaders. Zalmay Khalilzad told Afghanistan's Aina Television that a Pakistani TV channel had interviewed a senior Taliban commander, Mullah Akhtar Usmani, at a time when Pakistani officials claimed they did not know the whereabouts of Taliban leaders. "If a TV station can get in touch with them, how can the intelligence service of a country, which has nuclear bombs and a lot of security and military forces, not find them," Khalilzad said in the interview with Aina broadcast on Friday evening. Khalilzad praised the efforts of President Pervez Musharraf's government in helping to arrest leaders of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network, but added: "We ask them to launch wide-ranging campaigns to detain the Taliban extremists." Cricket-Former India test batsman Mushtaq Ali dies NEW DELHI, June 18 (Reuters) - Former India test batsman Mushtaq Ali, who helped set the record for most runs in a day's play in tests, died on Saturday aged 90, a cricket official said. A tall and flamboyant opening batsman, Ali played 11 tests over 18 years after making his debut against England in 1933-34 as a left-arm spin bowler. He became the first Indian batsman to score a test hundred away from home, against England at Old Trafford in 1936, an effort which helped set a record 588 runs amassed in a single day.
