KARACHI, June 15: The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan-i-Iqbal campus, remained tense on Wednesday with teachers staying away from academic activities and a clash taking place between two student groups during the day. Following rowdy incidents caused allegedly by a group of students on Tuesday, teachers boycotted the classes and did not turn up for examination duties in the afternoon shift.

The varsity’s controller of examination postponed the BA Annual (private) exams scheduled for the day and was not sure about the fate of Thursday’s paper either, said a source.

It was learnt that any further decision regarding exams would be taken by the varsity administration on Thursday, after a meeting of the teachers’ body.

If teachers agreed to perform examination duties, exams would then be held in the afternoon, otherwise not, said a senior varsity official.

The vice-chancellor was out of city, while the registrar and other officials were not ready to talk about any development or future line of action.

In the meantime, four students were injured in a clash between two student groups at the Gulshan campus on Wednesday.

Condemning the elements involved in Tuesday’s disturbances on campus, the varsity’s teachers’ body, Anjuman-i-Asatiza, on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the teachers subjected to torture.

In a meeting, it was resolved that boycott of academic and non-academic activities by teachers would continue until the time the culprits were arrested.
