Pakistan moving on path of socio-economic development: Musharraf CANBERRA, June 15 (APP): President Pervez Musharraf Wednesday said Pakistan is building on its geo-economic strength to progress in line with its true potential. Speaking at a lunch hosted in his honour by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, and attended by a large gathering of Australian parliamentarians. President Musharraf said the "vast majority of people wants socio-economic development, progress and prosperity and they whole-heartedly support my policies." . The President recounted host of difficulties Pakistan had to face due to the impact of regional situation, particularly the unrest in Afghanistan after 1979 Soviet invasion, rise of Taliban and emergence of al-Qaeda in the war-ravaged country, and underlined Pakistan's role as a frontline state in the fight against terrorism and referred to the arrest of over 700 al-Qaeda terrorists since the launch of war on terror. Israel agrees to give Palestinians withdrawal plans Gaza (dpa) - Israel agreed to give the Palestinians its plans for the upcoming withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank, Palestinian Interior Ministry said Wednesday. This would include a timetable with exact dates, a statement said. Two die in gunbattle near Srinagar SRINAGAR, June 15 (AFP) - Indian troops Wednesday shot dead two militants during a gunbattle near Srinagar, the army said.The fighting broke out early Wednesday when troops closed in on a house in which the rebels were hiding. The gunbattle was taking place at Gandherbal, about four kilometers (2.5 miles) from the revered Hindu shrine of Kheer Bhawani where thousands of Hindus have gathered for an annual festival. Violence shakes Kirkuk after bank suicide bombing BAGHDAD, June 15 (AFP) - Kirkuk in northern Iraq was gripped by more violence on Wednesday after a suicide bombing at a bank in the city killed at least 20 people. Dutch mosque damaged in arson attack AMSTERDAM, June 15 (Reuters) - A mosque in the Dutch city of Rotterdam was damaged by arson and daubed with racist graffiti early on Wednesday, the latest of several such attacks since the murder last year of a filmmaker critical of Islam. The Shaan-e-Islam mosque, frequented by Rotterdam's Surinamese community, was extensively damaged by fire and racist slogans were painted on its walls, a spokesman for Rotterdam police said. Bin Laden, Omar are well, Taliban commander says ISLAMABAD, June 15 (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden is in good health, a Taliban commander said, dismissing speculation the fugitive al Qaeda leader was sick. The commander, Mullah Akhtar Usmani, also said Talibanleader Mullah Mohammad Omar was well and in direct command of Taliban forces in Afghanistan. The private television station did not say where or when the interview was conducted. In the interview, his face was partly concealed by a blackturban. Spain holds 16 suspected militants MADRID, June 15 (Reuters) - Spanish police have arrested 16 suspected militants, 11 of whom were linked to al Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. The other five were suspected of being linked to the March 2004 train bombings in Madrid. Australian PM says hostage Wood freed in Iraq CANBERRA, June 15 (Reuters) - Australian hostage Douglas Wood was freed from his Iraqi captors on Wednesday after being held for six weeks, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said. Two Bulgarian soldiers die in road accident in Iraq SOFIA, June 15 (AFP) - Two Bulgarian soldiers died and another was seriously injured in a road accident in Iraq, the Bulgarian defense ministry said Wednesday. They were aboard an armored car carrying out a reconnaissance mission Tuesday evening near the southern city of Diwaniyah when the vehicle slipped while crossing an embankment and rolled over into a canal, the ministry said in a statement. West flouting rules with Nepal arms sales: Amnesty LONDON, June 15 (Reuters) - Western governments are flouting their own rules and contributing to grave human rights abuses by selling arms and weapons systems to crisis-torn Nepal, rights watchdog Amnesty International said on Wednesday. Australia, Pakistan sign counter-terrorism pact CANBERRA, June 15 (Reuters) - Australia and Pakistan signed an agreement on Wednesday to share intelligence and hold joint training exercises as part of efforts to fight terrorism and crime. "Pakistan and Australia are key partners in the international campaign on terror," President Pervez Musharraf and Australian Prime Minister John Howard said in a statement after a signing ceremony in Canberra. Two dead in fire on Moscow petroleum storage MOSCOW, June 15 (AFP) - Two blasts rocked a petroleum storage depot in Moscow's suburb of Noginsk, sparking flames in two gas cisterns and killing two people, the emergency ministry officials said early Wednesday.
