They were the first Palestinian executions since 2002. Three of the four men were hanged at national security headquarters and the fourth was shot by firing squad at Palestinian police headquarters in Gaza City, said interior ministry spokesman Tawfiq Abu Husa. "All of them were sentenced to death for murder," he told AFP, adding that Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas rejected requests for a stay of execution."The executions are one of many measures being taken given the unprecedented high crime rate. Kuwait premier names first woman minister KUWAIT, June 12 (Reuters) - Kuwait appointed its first female cabinet member on Sunday by naming a veteran women's rights activist as planning minister, state news agency KUNA said. It said Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah "announced the appointment of Dr. Massouma Mubarak as planning minister and minister of state for administrative development affairs". Kuwait is the third country in the conservative Gulf Arab region to have a woman cabinet member. Group of Eight wipes debt slate clean for 18 poorest nations LONDON, June 12 (AFP) – The G-8 decision to immediately write off all multilateral debt owed by 18 of the world's poorest countries, most of them in Africa, amounting to 40 billion dollars (33 billion euros)will cover Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Nine other countries will become eligible for 100 percent debt relief totalling an extra 11 billion dollars over the next 12 to 18 months, after which 11 more nations could receive similar debt cancellation of four billion dollars -- bringing the total amount of debt relief to 55 billion dollars. "The debt deal is very good news for people in the 18 countries that will immediately benefit”, ActionAid policy officer Romilly Greenhill said adding that “it will do little to immediately help millions in at least 40 other countries."
