Explosives kill seven, injure 20 in northern China Beijing (dpa) - At least seven people died and 20 were injured in an explosion in northern China's Shanxi province on Thursday,officials said. The blast was caused by explosives,an official said but refused to give details.(Posted @ 16:16 PST)
Abbas holds truce talks as Israeli court declares pullout legal GAZA CITY, June 9 (AFP) - Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas held talks with militant factions in the Gaza Strip Thursday in a bid to prevent a truce from unravelling, as the Israeli supreme court removed a legal hurdle to the pullout of settlers from the territory. Qatar constitution gives women equal rights Dubai (DPA) - Qatar took its first step towards greater democracy Thursday, officially adopting a constitution that grants women equal rights and paves the way for the emirate's first parliamentary elections. Under the new constitution, the first since Qatar gained independence from Britain in 1971, power effectively remains with the emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, but citizens get a limited say in how the country is run. Israeli court rejects bid to overturn Gaza pullout JERUSALEM, June 9 (Reuters) - Israel's High Court on Thursday rejected a bid by Jewish settlers to overturn legislation underpinning Israel's planned withdrawal from Gaza, clearing the last major legal hurdle to a pullout in August. The court panel left largely intact, with only minor technical changes, a parliamentary-approved compensation package for 9,000 settlers slated for evacuation, court documents showed.
