KARACHI: Govt seeks time for whereabouts of activist
KARACHI, June 7: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking whereabouts of a Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Alami activist as the federal and provincial law officers sought time to ascertain the whereabouts of the man allegedly arrested by law enforcement agencies.
Mohammad Arif submitted that his son-in-law Mohammad Jamil Memon, who went to Swat on a Tablighi visit in January, was allegedly arrested by law enforcement agencies in connection with the US consulate car bombing and conspiracy to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf.
His counsel Ashfaq Janjua submitted that since his arrest the man was not produced before any court of law and his whereabouts was unknown. He expressed the apprehension that the suspect might be handed over to any other country.
The court was asked to direct the federal and provincial governments to produce the alleged detenu before the court and restrain them from extraditing him to any country.
The SHC’s division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim adjourned the hearing of petition till June 17. — PPI
