Jamaat joins talks with Kashmiri leaders

By Amjad Mahmood

LAHORE, June 5: The Jamaat-i-Islami, which was against meeting the visiting leaders from occupied Kashmir, has changed its stance and has indirectly joined the dialogue being held with them, party sources said.

Jamaat leaders representing the party and lobbying for the Kashmir cause in foreign countries have reached the capital and started holding discussions with the nine-member delegation of Kashmiri leaders, the sources said.

Ghulam Nabi Fai, Nazeer Qureishi, Nazeer Shal and Abdul Majeed Trembun had taken flights to Islamabad from the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UK and Belgium to discuss the new proposals the visiting leaders claim they are carrying for settling the over five-decade-old dispute between Pakistan and India.

The Jamaat leadership had earlier refused to meet the visitors from occupied Kashmir. The team is due here on Monday (today).

Meanwhile, Jamaat Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad told participants of a workshop at Mansoora here on Sunday that the party was not opposed to meeting the visiting Kashmiri delegation.
