KARACHI: DHA water plant to be completed by August 2006


KARACHI, May 31: Financial close for the establishment of three mgd, 94MW DHA power and desalination project has been achieved. This was stated at a special meeting of DHA Executive Board chaired by Corps Commander, Lt Gen Syed Athar Ali, who is also the president of the said board.

The meeting was held at the Defence Authority Golf Club, says a DHA statement issued here on Tuesday.

It said that the executive board was given detailed presentation on the progress made so far on the execution of the DHA mega projects.

It was informed that financial close for the establishment of 3mgd, 94MW DHA Power and Desalination Project has been achieved. The design engineering work of desalination and power plant units by Alpha Laval and Siemens AG in Sweden and Germany respectively was rapidly underway.

The work of erection and installation of the plant including the civil works was all set to start with immediate effect.

The board was intimated that the plant would become functional in a committed time frame.

The corps commander said that in wake of serious water crisis prevailing in Defence, the DHA must ensure fast track smooth execution of the project work according to the stipulated time so that the first desalination plant of the country goes into operation by August next year.

The board was also given a detailed briefing on the establishment of 300 beds Creek City Teaching Hospital in DHA Phase-VIII by a consortium of International Health Group, UK.

The hospital would have full diagnostic centre, specialists clinic, support facilities, teaching block and hostel facilities.

The board was intimated that the ground breaking of the project was scheduled to be held on July 31 this year and the Creek City Hospital would become fully functional in a record period of two years.

The Executive Board was briefed about the ongoing modernization of Defence authority Golf Course into 18 Holes international standard golf course purportedly to be the best of its kind in the country.

The board also approved the revised DHA construction bylaws which had been made more practical coherent and realistic to facilitate the residents.— APP
