KARACHI: Japanese plan for city discussed


KARACHI, May 27: A delegation comprising representatives of the Japanese government and financial institutions, met the City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, on Friday. The delegation included Takehiro Okubo, head of the Economic and Development Section of the Japanese Embassy at Islamabad; Hirokuki Miyakawa, DG Japan External Trade Organization; Eri Kakuta, Economic Researcher at the Japanese Consulate in Karachi; K Tamaki, Project Formulation Adviser, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); Mr Ochi, Chief Representative of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC); and Shaikh Talib Fateh, JICA Coordinator in Karachi.

The delegation presented a written report to the city nazim about Karachi’s vitalization scenario, which contained proposals to make Karachi a modern city of the future.

Niamat presented his ‘Karachi Vision-2010’, and said it was his desire to make Karachi a clean city, free of problems of pollution, traffic and transport, sewerage and water, where people were not perturbed for jobs, and where there was development in the health and education sectors.

He explained his priorities with regard to five corridors of mass transit and solid waste projects.
