GUJRAT, May 20: The provincial secretary for local bodies had removed Kharian tehsil Nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira and made Naib Nazim Dr Javed Riaz as the acting tehsil Nazim on Friday. The action was taken against Nadeem Kaira by the high-ups on his nomination in a case and subsequently his permanent disappearance from the law and his office.

Kharian cantonment police had registered a case against him and others on the charge of attacking on the police station and thrashing SHO Ghulam Jaffar Cheena in a bid to release one of his cousins Zia last month. After committing the crime, the accused had escaped from the scene.

Later, the police arrested a nominated accused, Ghulam Dastgir, who was sent to jail by a magistrate. In the meanwhile, Zia was released on confirmation of his bail by an anti-terrorism court of Gujranwala. The other nominated accused are still on interim bails.

Nadeem Kaira did not even applied for an interim bail in the case. On April 28, an anti-terrorism court of Gujranwala had declared him as the court absconder.
