Scrap blast victims’ bodies to be exhumed

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 20: Police on Friday decided to have bodies of two labourers killed in a scrap blast exhumed. The blast that took place last Sunday had been hushed up by police concerned reportedly with the help of a couple of crime reporters. The inquiry has so far failed to identify police officials and reporters involved in hushing up the incident.

The blast in a scrap godown in Misri Shah had claimed the lives of two labourers and left four others injured. The godown is owned by Zubair, alias Zubairi, the son of the late Kumma Qasai.

The incident had been hushed up following a deal between some city division police officials and the godown owner, who had a criminal record. The godown owner had returned the bodies of the labourers to their families without completing any legal formalities.

The incident was unearthed on Wednesday by Lahore Operations police SSP Aftab Cheema.

Families of the killed labourers belonging to Naushera Virkaan and Narowal had arrived in the city and confirmed their deaths in the blast, a member of the probe team said. He said an application had been submitted to a court of law to have the bodies exhumed.

“We will bring the bodies back to Lahore for an autopsy.”

Meanwhile, the police have failed to arrest the godown owner and his men.
