PTCL to take action against pay-phone company

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 20: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will take legal action against the owners of a pay-phone company — Fone 4-U — for abrupt suspension of its service. The Shahnoor Communications (Pvt) Limited was authorized to install PCOs and customer service centres under the name of Fone 4-U. The company used to charge Rs1.90 per unit as against the PTCL rates of Rs2.30 per unit to lure maximum customers.

PTA regional chief Col Nayyar Hasan told Dawn on Friday that it had examined the case and forwarded a report in this regard to the head office in Islamabad.

He said a legal notice would be served on the company in a few days and the action would be recommended after hearing the accused.

However, he said the PTCL management could lodge an FIR against the company as it owed Rs9 million to the former.

The company had established its network in various cities, included Faisalabad, Lahore, Sargodha, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Dera Ismael Khan and Jhang.
