Minutes of dam meeting signed

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 12: India and Pakistan Commissioners of the Indus Basin Water Treaty signed minutes of the recently concluded meeting on Kishanganga dam here on Thursday. Both sides were unable to finalize wording of the minutes late on Wednesday night and signed the document on Thursday morning.

The Indian team could not leave for home on Wednesday according to the original plan because of this delay. It was also unable to leave for India on Thursday as it got stuck in traffic jams and missed PIA’s Delhi-bound flight. The team would now leave for New Delhi on an Air India flight on Friday.

APP ADDS: The preparation of the draft was delayed by two days due to serious objections raised by the two parties on certain clauses. The three-day official talks ended on Tuesday but experts continued their informal deliberations to reach a meaningful consensus on the draft.

Pakistan Indus Water Basin Commissioner Syed Jamaat Ali Shah told reporters before signing of the document that many things had to be kept in view before preparing the draft. He said the draft included all the things that had been discussed by experts during their three-day talks and nothing beyond the deliberations.
