Probe ordered into ‘illegal’ hospital fee

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, May 12: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has ordered an immediate inquiry into alleged illegal charging of fees from poor patients at the Saidu Hospital in Swat. The matter was brought to the health minister’s notice by Information Technology Minister Hussain Ahmed Kanju during a meeting here on Thursday.

Mr Kanju also highlighted the issue of upgradation of district headquarters and tehsil hospitals besides construction of a nursing hostel.

Mr Inayatullah Khan said all problems relating to the health department, including the issue of nursing hostel would be looked into and addressed on a priority basis.

He assured Mr Kanju that most problems of the Saidu Medical College and Hospital would be resolved with its upgradation to the teaching hospital status, adding that he would visit Swat next week in this regard.
