One those killed was a policeman. "The bomb was intended to target a police vehicle. Three police vehicles were damaged and seven policemen were injured," a police officer said. Half a dozen vehicles and several houses and shops were damaged in the blast in Jawahar Nagar, a residential area. A spokesman for the Al Nasireen militant group called a local news agency and claimed responsibility for the attack. In the deadliest blast, a suicide car bomber blew up his vehicle in the northern town of Tikrit among a crowd of mainly Shi'ite migrant workers from southern Iraq who had gathered to look for work on construction sites. Police said at least 28 people were killed and more than 60 wounded. In the town of Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, a suicide bomber walked into an army recruitment centre and detonated an explosive belt, killing at least 25 people and wounding 34, hospital sources said. A third suicide bomber blew up his vehicle near a police station in the southern Baghdad suburb of Dora, killing at least three civilians. Police said the bomber was trying to reach the police station but blew up his car before reaching the building. When one went to investigate, it exploded. One policeman died, another was seriously injured. One woman was killed and two people were injured when their vehicle was caught in the blast which shattered windows up to 100 metres (300 feet) away. Lafitte is a civil engineer and professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, the development bank said."Both India and Pakistan have found Professor Lafitte suitably qualified as a neutral expert," the World Bank said in a statement. "His findings will be made known in time," it added.
