Iraq group kidnaps Japanese national in Iraq DUBAI, May 9 (Reuters) - Islamic militant group Army of Ansar al-Sunna said on Monday it had abducted a Japanese national working at a U.S. base in Iraq, according to a statement posted on the Internet. The group posted on its Web site a picture of a Japanese passport bearing the name Akihiko Saito as well as an identification card saying he was a security manager. "We agreed that we will move forward with the comprehensive economic partnership, which FTA (free trade agreement) will be part of it," Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said after talks with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. "Our vision on East Asia policy reflects our deep desire for closer cooperation with the ASEAN countries, especially in the economic, trade, social, cultural and security fields," he said at a luncheon in his honour by the Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra at the Government House. The police then also fired hundreds of rounds and tear gas shells to disperse the villagers who protested the incident. A police spokesman said seven members of the force were injured while Palestinian medical sources said at least 11 of the demonstrators had also been hurt after being beaten by police. (Posted @ 16:30 PST) U.S. mounts offensive, kills 75 militants BAGHDAD, May 9 (Reuters) - U.S. Marines said on Monday they had killed 75 militants in the first 24 hours of an offensive against foreign fighters and militants in western Anbar province. A U.S. military statement said coalition and Marine aircraft were also taking part. The offensive is taking place in a region which is known as a smuggling route and sanctuary for foreign fighters, the military said. Addressing a joint press conference here at the Government House, following their exclusive and delegation level talks, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his Thai counterpart Thaksin Shinawatra said they discussed an early harvest agreement, cooperation in security and tourism, increased flights and rural reforms. The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cultural cooperation, and would formally set up a joint Thai-Pakistan Business Forum to enhance trade and economic cooperation. (Posted @ 13:15 PST) Railway track blown up in southern Pakistan Karachi, Pakistan (dpa) - Two bomb explosions hit a railway track near Kashmoor in upper sindh in Pakistan's southern Sindh province Monday, damaging the track, police and railway officials said. "More than a foot-long piece of track has been blown up," a railway official said, adding that no casualties were reported. He said the explosive devices planted beneath the track went off at around 6.30 a.m. local time (0130 hours GMT). The main track was intact and there was no interruption in normal traffic. (Posted @ 13:15 PST) Four killed in Baghdad car bomb attack BAGHDAD, May 9 (AFP) - Four people were killed and eight others wounded when a suicide bomber rammed his car into two police vehicles at a roadside checkpoint early Monday in the Saydiyah district of southwest Baghdad, an interior ministry official said. Two of those killed were policemen who burned to death in their vehicle. Medics said a total of nine people, amongst them six policemen and three civilians were wounded.
