Six federal troops killed in Chechnya in past 24 hours: report VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia, May 6 (AFP) - Six federal troops have been killed in Chechnya in the last 24 hours, an official in the region's pro-Moscow administration said Friday on condition of anonymity.Two regular soldiers were killed Thursday during an operation against rebels in Sernovodsk, a village in western Chechnya according to the source.However, according to an official press release about the same clash, only one Chechen police officer was killed and two were injured.(Posted @ 22:00 PST)

Three dead in Indian navy helicopter crash: police MADRAS, May 6 (AFP) - Two instructor pilots and a trainee died Friday when their Indian navy helicopter crashed in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, police said. An inspector at Madras police headquarters said the accident happened near a naval base at Rajali, 60 kilometres (37.5 miles) north of Madras, the state capital. Musharraf demands relocation of refugees to Afghanistan Islamabad (dpa) - President Pervez Musharraf Friday once again demanded the United Nations relocate all Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan to their homeland. "Rather than the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) maintaining refugee camps in Pakistan, along the border areas, these should be relocated within Afghanistan," Musharraf said during his meeting with Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, UNHCR's goodwill ambassador in Islamabad. Taliban claims to have killed eight Afghan soldiers Kabul (dpa) - Taliban on Friday claimed to have killed eight Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in the country's southern province of Zabul.Taliban spokesperson Abdul Latif Hakmi said a group of militants attacked two military posts near Qalat, the provincial capital of Zabul, early Friday killing the eight soldiers and destroying a number of military vehicles.There was no official confirmation of the incident from Afghan officials.(Posted @ 19:45 PST)

Two soldiers injured in blast, powerline bombed in Pakistan QUETTA, Pakistan, May 6 (AFP) - Two paramilitary soldiers were injured in a blast close to a railway track, while a main power line was bombed in Balochistan province on Friday, officials said. The soldiers were patrolling along a railway track in Bakhtiarabad and found a pair of explosive devices nearby, which exploded when they tried to examine them, paramilitary commander Rizwan Malik told AFP. Shrapnel from the blast injured the soldiers but there was no damage to the track some 220 kilometres (136 miles) southeast of Quetta. Indian companies barred from Pakistan investment for now: PM KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (AFP) - Indian companies will not be allowed to invest in Pakistan yet as economic relations have to move in tandem with progress on other issues, including the Kashmir dispute, Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said here Friday. Pakistan welcomed investment from all over the world and it was flowing in, Aziz said in an interview with a small group of journalists during a visit to Malaysia. Asked whether this applied to Indian companies, he replied: "Not yet, no. Pakistan smashes new Al-Qaeda plot to kill Musharraf ISLAMABAD, May 6 (AFP) - Pakistani intelligence agents have foiled a new plot by Al-Qaeda militants to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf, security officials told AFP Friday. Bomber kills nine Iraqi police, 14 corpses found BAGHDAD, May 6 (Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed nine policemen in Saddam Hussein's hometown and 14 corpses were found in Baghdad on Friday . The suicide car bomber blew up his vehicle beside a minibus taking policemen to work in the northern town of Tikrit, killing at least nine policemen and wounding several, local police said In northern Baghdad, a resident alerted police after he saw bodies being buried. Police found the corpses of 14 men. 29 killed in Afghan ambush Kabul, May 06 (PPI): AT least 20 insurgents and nine Afghan soldiers were killed after militants ambushed US and Afghan forces in the southern province of Kandahar, the US military said Friday. Four Afghan soldiers and one US soldier were also wounded in the firefight overnight, US-led coalition spokeswoman Lieutenant Cindy Moore said."An initial report indicates that more than 20 insurgents have been killed in Kandahar after the ambush," said the spokeswoman. Rare bacterial meningitis kills 15 in Indian capital NEW DELHI, May 6 (AFP) - An outbreak of rare bacterial meningitis in the Indian capital has claimed 15 lives out of more than 100 people infected, a health official said Friday.
