ISLAMABAD, May 5: The government of Mauritius is considering a proposal to soften visa policy for Pakistani businessmen besides providing them special facilities. This was stated by President of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Yousaf Saleh Mohammad at a meeting with officials of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) here on Thursday.

According to a press release of the ICCI, the visiting delegates urged the ICCI to send a delegation to Mauritius in July.

They expressed the hope that Pakistan would take advantage of the opportunity of zero customs duty on textile products, readymade garments, edibles and others.

Mauritius is a gateway for Pakistan to trade markets in African countries. Mr Saleh said Pakistan could introduce its products in the African markets through Mauritius.

During the meeting, both the sides exchanged views on further promotion of bilateral trade ties with respect to different sectors of mutual interest.

Mr Saleh said that last year Mauritius parliament had brought down customs duty on around 2,500 items to zero in view of the fast changing global economic scenario.
