WASHINGTON, May 5: Support for the Iraq war among Americans has dropped to 41 per cent _ the lowest since the toppling of Saddam Hussein. According to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll survey, 57 per cent of the Americans believe the war was not worth the fight; 41 per cent say it was.
The poll of 1,006 adults was conducted on Friday through Sunday. The margin of error was plus minus 5 percentage points. In a poll taken on Feb 7 to 10, after the Iraqi elections, 48 per cent said the war had been worth waging, against 50 who thought not.
Support for the US-led war peaked at 76 per cent right after it was launched in March 2003. The latest poll shows a drop in positive feelings sparked by Iraqi elections in January. In a separate poll of 492 adults, 49 per cent said it was a mistake to send troops to Iraq.
