Published April 21, 2005

LONDON, April 20: Essex have signed South African pace bowler Dale Steyn as a short-term replacement for absent Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria. The 21-year-old, who made his international debut against England this year, will have to wait for a work permit before he can take up his post with the county.

Kaneria is on international duty with Pakistan as they prepare for their tour of the West Indies and will not be available until the series concludes on June 7.—AFP
